Golf cart and recreational vehicle accidents are very common in Charleston and throughout the State of South Carolina. The McKnight Law Firm represents people who have suffered serious injuries and families who have suffered the death of a loved one while driving or riding as passengers on golf carts and recreational vehicles, such as all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
In most resorts and neighborhoods in Charleston and throughout South Carolina, where the speed limit is 25 mph or less, it is legal to operate golf carts on roadways. Golf carts can be difficult to see on roadways, resulting in accidents involving serious injuries and death, when they are hit by automobiles, motorcycles, and trucks. People driving golf carts are many times on vacation, and operate golf carts while intoxicated, resulting in injuries to themselves, passengers, and pedestrians who are hit. Parents will sometimes allow teenagers or even pre-teen children to drive golf carts throughout resorts and neighborhoods; and these untrained, immature drivers will sometimes be involved in golf cart accidents involving serious injuries or death due to reckless behavior.
Most All-terrain vehicle (ATV) accidents occur off-road; but drivers of these vehicles have a duty to operate these vehicles safely to avoid injury to others, including passengers, pedestrians, or people riding other ATVs. The McKnight Law Firm will investigate these accidents involving ATVs and determine whether the driver has violated specific safety rules of operation. Owners and drivers of these vehicles can be held liable for injuries and/or death resulting from negligent or reckless behavior while operating ATVs.
